Tweets from Malaysia

From May 2021 - February 2023 we collected over 700 million tweets from 520,563 Twitter users based in Malaysia.

Here you can view monthly reports highlighting top retweeted content based on different criteria. These reports are useful to better understand what content gains the most traction with users in Malaysia based on language, urban development category (Urban / Semi-Urban / Rural areas) or state. Each report is limited to 50 top tweets per section.

The most retweeted content nationally, ranked by the percentage of actively tweeting users in Malaysia that retweeted each tweet. Further segmented by language to show top content retweeted by Malay Speakers and English Speakers.

Top Content by State/Territory

The most retweeted content by state/territory, ranked by the percentage of actively tweeting in the state/territory that retweeted each tweet.

Top Content by Urban Development Category

The most retweeted content in Peninsular Malaysia segmented by the urban development category of the areas users are based in - Urban, Semi-Urban or Rural areas. Tweets are ranked by the percentage of actively tweeting users in each area that retweeted each tweet.

Content Discovery by Urban Development Category

Top content that has a particular appeal with users in Peninsular Malaysia, segmented by the urban development category (Urban / Semi-Urban / Rural) of the area that they are based in. This is for the purpose of discovering what type of content has traction with users in each urban development category.

These reports are very useful for getting to know the interests of users in each urban development category compared to looking at the Top Content by Urban Development Category reports.

Ratioed Content

Top content that was 'ratioed', meaning that it was quoted more times than it was retweeted. Being 'ratioed' is an indicator of tweets that sparked conversations and reactions. Each tweet is followed by a list of up to 3 top tweets (reactions) that quoted the original tweet.
