The following tweets represent a selection of the most-shared content on Twitter following the passing of Karpal Singh (MP for Bukit Gelugor), who died in a car accident at 1AM on the North-South Expressway near Kampar on April 17th 2014. His personal assistant Michael Cornelius Selvam Vellu was also killed in the accident.
The wake will be held at Karpal Singh’s residence in 144A Jalan Utama, Penang until Saturday, 19 April (10am-10pm).
On Sunday, 20th April, a state honours funeral will be held at Dewan Sri Pinang (Lebuh Light) for the public to pay their last respects from 9am-11am.
The cortege will depart for the Batu Gantung Crematorium in Penang after 11am. More details are at the end of this post.

8.00am – Cortège will depart from the family residence (144A Jalan Utama).
Route: Jalan Utama – Jalan Macalister – Peel Avenue – Jalan Perak – Jalan Burma – Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah – Lebuh Farquhar – Lebuh Light – DEWAN SRI PINANG
9.00am – Paying of last respects by members of the public
(Members of the public are advised to pay their last respects from 9am-10.30am)
10.30am – Paying of last respects by:
i. State Government representatives
ii. DAP CEC and other political party representatives
iii. Associations, professional bodies, religious organisations and others
iv. Prayer session for family members
11.00am – Funeral procession:
1) Cortège to leave Dewan Sri Pinang, circle the Penang High Court building and stop in front of Green Hall (Karpal’s legal office) accompanied by family members only before heading back to Dewan Sri Penang.
2) Funeral procession will begin. Route: Lebuh Light – Penang State Assembly building –Lebuh Light – Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling – Lebuh Farquhar – stop briefly in front of St. Xavier Secondary School.
12noon – Procession will disperse; cortège will proceed to Batu Gantung Crematorium.
